1938 – 2025

Imam Ekeraam Diedericks was a beloved spiritual leader, teacher, and community builder whose life was defined by compassion, dignity, and unwavering faith. Born and raised in Fietas, Johannesburg, he began his spiritual journey under the mentorship of Imam Gasant “Amisant” Sallie and went on to serve as the last Imam of the historic 23rd Street Mosque before apartheid’s forced removals under the Group Areas Act.

He later continued his mission in Eldorado Park, where he became a guiding light for generations. Whether leading prayer, teaching children, or supporting the vulnerable, Imam Ekeraam touched countless lives with his humility, wisdom, and warmth.

In January 2025, he passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer. While his passing leaves a great void, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he inspired—and in the institutions, like this preschool, that continue to reflect his values of learning, unity, and spiritual grounding.
